Are you someone who is running a successful blog that gets a good amount of traffic and looking to monetize it? Or have you just launched a brand new blog in which your end goal is to turn it into a business for yourself for some passive income?

In this blog post, I will be talking you through different ways in which you can use to begin making money from your blog and turn it into a business.

Below are my top tips on how to turn your blog into a business.

1. Find a reliable web hosting provider

You can’t run a blog without a website. There are some free blogging services available, but we don’t recommend using them. The reasons why are; customization limitations, and monetization. Free blogging services have extremely limited customizability meaning your blog will look just like everyone else’s and you won’t stand out visually. A nice-looking blog that is unique is always more attractive. The second reason is the inability to fully monetize your blog. With free blogging platforms, you won’t be able to inject ads or set up products to sell. This limits you to affiliate marketing as your only way of monetization. When running a blog you should be aiming to utilize as many sources of income as you can.

When looking for a web hosting platform you should look for power and affordability, here are some of our recommendations.

You may wonder why we haven’t put VPS Hosting or a Dedicated Server in this list, and the reason why is that it’s just not needed. These are powerful servers and with that comes a higher price tag which isn’t necessary at the beginning of your journey. If you’re looking for extra power then I recommend Web Hosting Plus, this combines the power of a VPS with the simplicity of a cPanel.

2. Write good quality, relevant content consistently

Content is without a doubt the most important part of a blog. Anyone that tells you otherwise is lying! Content is king when it comes to a blog and it must be relevant and written with quality.

The biggest reason why blogs fail in the modern world is consistency, and this isn’t solely because your competitors are being more consistent than you. This is actually because being inconsistent actually affects the frequency in which search engines index your content. For example, if you write 10 posts in one week and then 0 posts for the next 2 months, compared to writing 1/2 posts weekly, you will find that they take longer to appear on search engines and to get ranked. Google and other search engines are massive fans of consistent and fresh content, and if you adhere to this you will definitely reap the benefits.

3. Build a loyal mailing list

Email marketing is a brilliant way to keep in touch with your subscribers and those who enjoy reading your content. Advertising your blog on social media platforms can become inconsistent due to the ever-changing algorithms. The great thing with email marketing is that it doesn’t change and doesn’t look like it’s going to change any time soon, you send an email out and your subscribers are guaranteed to receive and see it (unless they don’t check their emails)

I would recommend Email marketing by Elite, it is affordable and comes with some nice features. Read more about our comparison of Elite’s Email Marketing and MailChimp.

4. You need to monetize your blog

The whole concept of turning a blog into a business comes down to finding a way to monetize your blog. Monetization is simply the process of converting something into money, there are many ways to achieve this with a blog and I will show you some different ways.

Firstly is Ads/Advertisements

Injecting ads into your blog is one of the easiest ways to start earning money from your posts. Before you start inserting ads into your posts, you need to find a reliable ad provider, I will list some below:

Whilst earning from ads is super easy, a lot of ad providers have minimum requirements that you’ll need to hit before being accepted such as having a minimum of 50,000 monthly page views or 100,000 page views. However, whilst these are stated as requirements you can sometimes still be accepted. Some ad providers will be friendly and provide you with information on why your application wasn’t successful and what you need to work on before being accepted.

Once you’ve been accepted, great! You can now start making money from every impression and click your ads get. Although this sounds great initially, you’ll need to get thousands of clicks and impressions every month to make good money from ads as most ad providers only pay a small amount per click or impression.

Secondly is Affiliate marketing

Affiliate marketing is such a great way to monetize your blog, not only does it provide you with another source of income every time someone purchases a product based on your recommendation. Another great thing about affiliate marketing is that it gives you something to write about, which is brilliant. There is nothing worse than being a content creator and having nothing to write about or not being able to think about something to write about.

The one recommendation that I have for affiliate marketing, is don’t just write content about everything and anything. Pick a niche, and write about products and services that you genuinely like using. By writing about products that you like and use your customers will notice a difference in the quality of your writing and it’ll also appear more genuine.

If you’re just getting started with affiliate marketing, a great place to start is Amazon Associates, it is easy to apply to and you’re almost guaranteed approval!

Third on this list is releasing your own product

At this point in your blogging journey, you have likely built a foundation of loyal readers. If that is the case you should begin thinking about the next step of monetization, and your next source of income. This might be releasing your own products, the product should be relevant to your niche and what your readers like. For example, if you’re writing about gardening, don’t make your first product a phone case, make your own plant pots.

Releasing your own product line is one of the hardest ways to turn your blog into a business. It requires loyal readers who are likely to spend on your products, and a good amount of money to start. Although it is the hardest way, it can be the most rewarding, as you start getting more product reviews and referrals you may find your return on investment (ROI) increasing.

If you’re looking to release your own product line, WooCommerce hosting will be the plan for you. Our WooCommerce hosting plan is packed full of over $6000 worth of premium WooCommerce extensions. Each extension provided will help you in different ways to grow your online store.

Fourth, is going to be starting a YouTube channel

I know that this may not be for everyone, and it doesn’t have to be, nor is it a necessity. However, if you’re comfortable with recording videos of things that will back up your blog posts, YouTube videos can really help with SEO, click-throughs, and also monetization. Be mindful that your face doesn’t have to be in the videos, you can talk over your video and that will be good enough to build the power of your blog. There are many successful YouTube accounts where their face isn’t shown, and yours could be next.

5. Marketing is essential

In order to get the most traffic to your blog, you must be present and visible to a wider audience. Whether that’s; on Pinterest, Instagram, Twitter, Facebook, or TikTok, the more eggs you have in different baskets will help you reach more potential readers. When using a blogging platform such as WordPress, it is made very easy to set up automatic posts to various social media platforms every time you publish a post, which is great for marketing and advertising your content.

  • Consistency
  • Good quality/unique content
  • Loyal readers
  • Marketing
