Why is website speed important?

Let’s talk about some website speed basics and why they’re important not just to your visitors but to Google too. After that, I will also be highlighting the fastest web host that comes above the rest.

Website speed has a direct effect when it comes to the user experience and search engine ranking. As a result, all website hosts always claim to be the fastest in the market.

User experience

User experience (UX) is taking into consideration all aspects of the website to make your visitor’s experience as smooth and easy as possible. There is no doubt that speed plays an important role in this. A website with a good UX will provide its visitors with exactly what they’re looking for in a blink of an eye.

Search engine ranking

Search engines have made it clear for a long time the importance of speed. In mid-june 2021, Google started to use page experience as part of its ranking algorithm. And speed plays a massive factor in-page experience.

The bottom line of the story being told here is that your website can look as amazing as you want it to with loads of content. However, if it runs slow it is going to be for your eyes only.

What factors indicate your website speed.

When you’re looking for the fastest website hosts, there are 3 main factors to look out for. Largest contentful pain (LCP), Time to first byte (TTFB), and Fully loaded time (FLT).

Largest contentful paint (LCP)

The good thing to mention here is that all of the web hosting providers above exceed Google’s expectations of a 2.5s Largest Contentful Pain (LCP) speed. The Largest Contentful Paint (LCP) is the metric that measures the time the website takes to load the largest content block on the page. With that being said, let’s look at who is the winner out of these 8 web hosts.

Eliteweb.coHostingerGodaddySitegroundInmotionWP EngineA2 HostingCloudways
Speed609ms765ms727ms623ms1.1s620ms675ms1.6s

This comparison is extremely close. However, eliteweb.co comes out on top with a super-fast load time of 609ms for its largest contentful paint!

Time to first byte (TTFB)

The time to first byte (TTFB) measures the initial server responsiveness. In simple terms, a fast TTFB means that the visitor’s request to open a website has been delivered and recognized by the receiving server in a quick time.

Google recommends that your TTFB should be below 200ms. With that being said, if the time is between 200ms and 600ms, it will still highly respected and will not be flagged by Google. If your time is over 600ms then it will be flagged. Let’s compare all the web hosting providers and see who has the fastest TTFB.

Eliteweb.coHostingerGodaddySitegroundInmotionWP EngineA2 HostingCloudways
Speed266ms177ms278ms205ms151ms113ms98ms374ms

First of all, we should mention that each and every website hosting provider here has a brilliant TTFB time. However, the winner here is indeed A2 Hosting.

Fully loaded time (FLT)

Now, this one shouldn’t require too much of an explanation. It is simply the time it takes for your website to fully load.

So, what is the recommended maximum time when it comes to a fully loaded website?

Well, anything that is below 3 seconds is a very good time. Google has clearly stated that websites that load faster than 3 seconds have a higher chance of ranking higher on the search results page. Now, let’s see who is the overall speed winner out of the world’s top 8 web hosting providers.

  1. These are great list! I suggest A2 Hosting. A2 Hosting is a brilliant web hosting provider, that provides a great service for very reasonable pricing.

    1. Agreed A2 are one of our favourites but they fell short in terms of pricing vs speed compared to ELITEWEB.Co – another issue is when you use their support tickets you will often get a different support officer answer after each response and typically, neither will read the response before thus leaving you in a circle of repeated information until something gets resolved. We’ve found that having one expert deal with the issue from start to finish via a phone call is the most efficient way forward. We’ve used each one of these services and all are subject to improvement at all times, but Elite takes the number one position (in our unbiased opinion of course) Happy hosting!
